Anjan Katta believes that computers and the tech industry have become overly corporate and rigid. To counter this, he created a tablet with a fast monochrome screen that’s perfect for outdoor use.

A Daylight DC1 tablet lying in tall green grass, displaying a drawing of foliage on the screen.

“Do you mind if I hug you?” asks Anjan Katta. This is not a typical way to conclude a product demo, but given Katta’s personality and the nature of his creation, it was fitting. Katta, a bearded and shaggy-haired individual, arrived at the WIRED office in San Francisco looking like he was ready for a summer hike. He immediately began enthusiastically discussing the early days of personal computers and the visionary figures who shaped that era, much of which he learned from my writings.

The Daylight Tablet, with its unique design and functionality, aims to bring back the idealism and innovation of the early computing days.
