Fox Corporation is entering the highly competitive UK market for free ad-supported streaming video. The new platform, Tubi, aims to compete with major players such as Netflix, Disney+, ITVX, Channel 4’s streaming platform, and BBC iPlayer.
Tubi has quickly gained market share in the US, boasting nearly 80 million active monthly users. In the UK, Tubi plans to launch with over 20,000 movies and TV shows, featuring content from Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“Tubi has spent the last decade refining our approach to large-scale, free, and engaging streaming in North America, and we believe now is the perfect time to bring this recipe to British audiences,” said Tubi CEO Anjali Sud.
Fox Corporation acquired Tubi in 2020 for $440 million as the American media giant sought to attract a younger audience.
With its extensive content library and free access model supported by advertisements, Tubi is poised to shake up the UK streaming landscape, offering viewers a compelling alternative to subscription-based services.
